Help NHS Charities: send your empty ink cartridges to Think Inks for recycling

Think Inks, a UK printer consumables recycling organisation, is donating up to £5 to the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal for every used ink cartridge they receive for recycling.

Managing Director, James O'Connor commented: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the way we all work, but the biggest impact is to our NHS and the people who are risking their lives to save ours. With most methods of conventional fundraising paused, we are proud to be able to raise substantial funds without asking the public for cash.

Estimates show that around 90% of empty ink cartridges are thrown away. With increasing numbers of people working and learning at home due to the COVID-19 distancing measures, it is possible that up to 30% more ink cartridges than normal will be discarded.

Think Inks is asking the UK to help from home, by sending in their used ink cartridges for recycling. Reusing ink cartridges doesn't just bring environmental benefits when sent to Think Inks, it also results in a donation to charity.

Sending empty cartridges to Think Inks is straight-forward: request an approved FREEPOST bag from the Think Inks website: www.inksnhs.com. This will be sent to your address. Fill the bag with your empty cartridges (two to ten cartridges are permitted in each bag) to recycle. The bag can then be posted in any post box, for free. No direct contact with others is required.

NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal provides emergency funds for a variety of initiatives to help NHS staff, volunteers and patients. These include: well-being packs/gifts of refreshments/wash-kits; temporary accommodation; parking costs; volunteer expenses; food deliveries; electronic communication devices to help patients in isolation stay connected to their family and friends to assist during the current crisis.

Ellie Orton, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together said: We are truly impressed with the sheer volume of support we are receiving and this innovative Think Inks campaign, that not only helps those wonderful NHS staff and the volunteers working day and night to save lives at a time of critical importance for us all, but is also healthier for our planet.

About Think Inks

Established in 2009, Think Inks enables people to recycle their used printer ink cartridges from home & work, using a freepost bag or box. Many of the ink cartridges are able to be re-used and therefore Think Inks can give charitable donations to encourage people to recycle their used inks. So far, Think Inks have raised over £560,000 for local and regional charities and have just launched the "NHS - Inks for Heroes" campaign to help raise money for our NHS workers helping to fight the Coronavirus pandemic. All cartridges received are processed and either re-used or recycled. The free scheme helps our environment and raises money for charities.
