POINTS FROM BSDHT COUNCIL FEBRUARY 2019
Council Elections: Simone Ruzario (Thames Valley Group) and Sarah Walker (Scottish Group) have been voted onto the Executive Team for 2019.
Honorary Membership: Council has agreed that honorary membership will be conferred on BSDHT Past Presidents on their retirement in recognition of their continued service to the Society. They will receive the Journals and access to the members’ site of the BSDHT website.
BSDHT Ambassadors: Council is considering appointing BSDHT Ambassadors. The role will require them to be proactively involved in supporting the Society eg presenting at Schools of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, and representing BSDHT on our stand at national events such as BDIA. A role description has yet to be written and Council will keep you informed as this develops.
Wrigley Award: This award supported three individual projects during 2018, each was awarded £1500. Council was informed that the name of the award has been changed in 2019 and it is now the Mars Wrigley Award. Due to the association with sugary confectionary, a debate took place during the meeting as to whether BSDHT should continue to accept this support. A vote was held and the final decision is to decline the award on the grounds of the affiliation with Mars. Council will reconsider should the name change in the future.
BSDHT Indemnity:With effect from 5th March 2019, the widely adopted BSDHT Indemnity insurance arrangement will be transferring (subject to existing policy holder consent) from Howden to Bennett Gould and Partners Limited (BGP) as an intermediary alteration. However, due to GDPR, members will be contacted by the BSDHT Administration team to provide permission for their information to be shared with the new broker.
Exemptions Update: The consultation has been delayed due to ministerial time involved with the demands of Brexit. BSDHT is disappointed but will continue to keep members updated with news as it arises.
OHC 22-23 November 2019: The 2019 OHC, Newport, South Wales will build upon the great success of the OHC 2018 held in Telford, where Julie Deverick was installed as President. It is intended to have a dinner and dance once again.
Queens Honours: Please consider nominating an exceptional individual for a Queen’s Honour. The President would like to hear from you, and work with you in you writing the nomination. Have you considered nominating a colleague for the prestigious Dr Gerald Leatherman Award? This may be the 1st step.
BSDHT is 70: As BSDHT is 70 years old in 2019, we are celebrating the Platinum Anniversary of BSDHT 1949-2019. The President would like you to consider nominating individuals for a special event to be held in June, with the President.
Moveit4Smiles: BSDHT is supporting this Dental Hygienist led initiative and invites you to become involved and walk the Cnicht and Tryfan in Wales to raise money and awareness of mouth cancer and HPV. You can support this by walking the challenge on 14 and 15 September 2019, or if you are unable to join us then perhaps provide a donation instead. Find out more at www.dentalhealth.org/moveit4smiles
