MEDICAL EMERGENCIES IN DENTAL PRACTICE

Venue: Middlesex University London

A patient could collapse on any premises at any time, whether they have received treatment or not. It is therefore essential that ALL registrants are trained in dealing with medical emergencies, including resuscitation, and possess up to date evidence of capability

(GDC Scope of Practice 2013)

Who Should Attend?

Dentists are required to attend Medical Emergencies training as part of the GDC Continual Professional Development criteria. The GDC recommend that it is attended on an annual basis. This training is also suitable for dental nurses as the emphasis is on teamwork. It also means all life support training can be completed in one day which minimises disruption to dental practices.

Syllabus includes:

  • Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Cardiac emergencies
  • Epileptic seizures
  • Hypoglycaemia
  • Syncope
  • Choking and aspiration
