In 1973 the first of the regional groups was formed. Originally named the Yorkshire Regional Group, the first informal meeting took place in June of that year. Currently the Society has twelve active regional groups all of which run a minimum of two regional scientific meetings a year. These meetings are of such a quality that they are certified to the General Dental Council education criteria for verifiable CPD. A 'Certificate of Attendance' is issued by the BSDHT indicating the high standard of scientific content in the programme and these may then be kept in the professional portfolio as evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
These regional groups provide members with an opportunity for professional contact and interaction within a defined geographical area. They provide and organise lectures, discussions of professional and educational interest. It allows the promotion of dental health within the local community and the communication of information with other local groups or branches of Dental and Health professionals.
