Membership

The British Society of Dental Hygiene & Therapy welcomes members who are dental hygienists, dental hygienist-therapists and students.

BSDHT is a major organisation within dentistry that exists to represent your interests. For example, representatives of the BSDHT maintain an ongoing dialogue with the General Dental Council (GDC), the Departments of Health and all the main groups representing dental care professionals. BSDHT attends meetings of the dental All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), bringing dental hygiene and therapy to the attention of government ministers and MPs.

Training

There are several ways to qualify as a dental hygienist/therapist:

Diploma in Dental Hygiene & Therapy - two year full time course
BSc in Oral Health Science - three year full time course
BSc (Hons) (Edinburgh)

The entry requirements for these courses vary and you are advised to contact the school of your choice for a prospectus.

Publications

Dental Health is BSDHT's scientific journal. Published six times each year, it is a well regarded and well read publication amongst dental hygienists/ hygienist-therapists particularly. It is provided to members of the Society as part of the membership benefits package. Dental Health is also available on a subscription basis.
