The Building a Digital Ready workforce programme aims to:

“Led by HEE, Building a Digital Ready Workforce is a programme of work that aims to bring people together in a culture that recognises the need to innovate and the role of digital in that innovation. Our mission is to help everyone in the health and care sector in England, become comfortable enough with digital tools that they can contribute to that transformation and deliver the outcomes of their role quicker, easier, safer and at a higher level of quality.” HEE BDRW website

BDRW has approached dental clinical fellows who are working on digitally enabling dentistry to take this forward. Wth dentistry being one of the earliest healthcare professional groups to be involved. The project aims to improve the digital literacy of the dental workforce by:

  • Raising awareness of digital enablers within dentistry
  • Working with DCPs in primary care on digital project and GDPR
  • Developing a GDPR toolkit for General Dental Practice
  • Supporting DCPs to share digital innovations within their primary care community
  • Supporting DCPs to organise evening CPD events on cyber security and GDPR
  • Working with dental organisations and networks to improve digital literacy
  • Supporting Dental Core Trainees and Foundation Dentists to develop digital enablers in practice

Do I need to be tech savvy to take part in this project?

No this is about developing individuals digital literacy no matter what level you are, from utilising email to coding applications, everybody will have differing abilities, the programme aims to improve awareness based on the individuals current skill level.

Is this open to all dentists and dental care professionals?

Yes this programme is aimed at the whole workforce.

What will I achieve from taking part in the programme?

You will be part of a national programme and will improve your own digital skills and knowledge, and will develop a product (video, audit tool, application) and have the opportunity to present at a digital dentistry event in the Summer.

Why should I get involved?

These skills will enable you to be better prepared for digital change in the NHS, and will develop your presentation, digital, teaching and management and leadership skills. Your work can also be included on your CV.

The solutions also will help you manage your practice more efficiently and effectively thus saving costs and freeing up clinical time.

Will it take up a lot of my time?

You can take as much or as little time as you need to fulfil your individual aims and objectives, the more time you put in the more you will achieve. The team will support you as much as possible to achieve your aim, however the programme requires good self direction to ensure that your solutions and innovations are tailored to you and your practice needs.

The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) is a nationally recognised body that represents over 4,000 Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists across the UK and beyond.

BSDHT maintain an on-going dialogue with the General Dental Council (GDC), the Departments of Health and all of the main groups representing dental care professionals, and attends meetings of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Dentistry, bringing dental hygiene and therapy to the attention of government ministers and MP’s.
