Sarah has represented the Society over the years in many areas. She has been an active member since qualifying in 1990 as a dental hygienist and therapist. She has served as Chairman, treasurer and representative of the London Regional Group and from 1993, on the Publications Committee of Dental Health for 14 years. More recently she has been voted by her peers onto council and sits on the education panel. She is also actively working with the Department of Health to pursue prescribing responsibilities for our profession.
Sarah is currently Senior Lecturer, Head of Centre and Programme Lead in the Institute of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) - Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, having worked there since 1993. She is Chair of the National Dental Tutors Group and as a committee member of the National Director’s Group.
In 2003 Sarah was recognised as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and in 2007 she was awarded the coveted title of 'Hygienist of the Year'. In 2014 she was the recipient of the Dr Gerald Leatherman Award. This award is held in the highest regard by our profession.
She is passionate about social responsibility and to date has volunteered her time to the Paralympics, Crisis at Christmas and was instrumental in 500 miles 4 smiles.
