Sarah has represented the Society over the years in many areas. She has been an active member since qualifying in 1990 as a dental hygienist and therapist. She has served as Chairman, treasurer and representative of the London Regional Group and from 1993, on the Publications Committee of Dental Health for 14 years. More recently she has been voted by her peers onto council and sits on the education panel.
Sarah is currently Senior Lecturer, Programme Lead in the Institute of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) - Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, having worked there since 1993. She is Chair of the Director’s Group of Dental Hygiene and Therapy.
In 2018 Sarah was recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education AcademyIn 2014 she was the recipient of the Dr Gerald Leatherman Award. This award is held in the highest regard by our profession.
Sarah was honoured to be awarded an MBE for services to Oral Health in the New Year's Honours List in 2017, which was presented by the Queen.
She is passionate about social responsibility and to date has volunteered her time to the Paralympics, Crisis at Christmas and was instrumental in developing the 500 miles 4 smiles, now renamed as Move it for Smiles, which aims to raise awareness of the increase in mouth cancer.
