BSDHT Sets New Goals for National Smile Month 2024
In an insightful interview, Miranda Steeples shares the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy’s (BSDHT) plans for National Smile Month 2024.
Exciting Initiatives and Engagements
Miranda reveals that the BSDHT is reintroducing its popular ‘First Smiles’ initiative, supported by Oral-B. This program educates children about oral health through engaging school visits featuring fun games and activities, led by dental hygienists and therapists. With applications open until May 31st, the visits will culminate on June 14th, the grand finale of National Smile Month. In celebration of BSDHT’s 75th anniversary, the goal is to reach 75 schools, significantly expanding last year’s impact of 50 volunteers reaching 2,000 children.
Effective Communication Strategies
To effectively communicate the key messages of National Smile Month, BSDHT will leverage various platforms. The ‘First Smiles’ visits will directly impart essential oral health information to children. Additionally, the society will maximize its social media presence with engaging posts and short videos. Members are encouraged to share these resources widely to extend the campaign’s reach.
Collaborations and Partnerships
This year, collaboration is key. BSDHT is partnering with the Oral Health Foundation to host an ‘Ask the Expert’ panel session on Instagram, providing the public with direct access to expert advice. This dynamic engagement aims to raise awareness and offer personalized guidance.
Reaching Underserved Communities
Addressing oral health inequalities, BSDHT’s initiatives aim to reach children from all backgrounds, including underserved communities. The ‘75 hours for 75 years’ campaign encourages members to engage in community activities, offering free oral hygiene advice and organizing donations to local food banks.
With innovative initiatives and strong partnerships, BSDHT aims to make National Smile Month 2024 a memorable and impactful campaign, fostering healthy smiles across the nation.
