BSDHT Regional Group Pathway

A Guide for Members Joining Regional Committee Positions

The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) thrives thanks to its Regional Groups, led by passionate volunteers like you. This pathway is your roadmap to joining a regional committee, helping you understand roles, navigate the nomination process, and work as a united team. Expect to commit 1-2 hours/month for a rewarding one year term that boosts your skills and CV!

Why Join a Regional Committee?

  • Make a Difference: Shape local events, support members, and champion oral health.
  • Grow Your Skills: Gain leadership, networking, and organisational experience.
  • Team Up: Connect with dental professionals who share your passion.
  • Be Recognised: Complete your term to add it to your CV and earn BSDHT recognition.

Get to know the roles before nominating yourself.  Each position is vital to your region’s success:

  • Chair: Leads the group, chairs meetings, and sets the vision.
  • Secretary: Supports the Chair, manages minutes, correspondence, and admin.
  • Treasurer: Handles the budget and financial reporting.
  • Trade Liaison Officer: Handles the trade bookings and liaison
  • Regional Group Rep: Is the conduit between the membership, the committee and the BSDHT Council

Action: Curious about a role? Contact a current committee member or email sharon@bsdht.org.uk for a chat.

Ready to step up? Here’s the process:

  1. Submit Your Nomination:
    • Complete the nomination form which is available from the BSDHT Head Office.
    • Send it to your Regional Group Secretary by the deadline (4 weeks before the AGM).
  2. Attend the AGM:
    • In-Person: Held annually in your region (venue announced 6 – 8 weeks prior tio the event).
    • Online: Join via Zoom if AGM is online.
  3. Get Elected:
    • Members vote and the new committee is confirmed for a one-year term starting post-AGM.
    • Complete the term to list it on your CV (partial terms don’t count).

Action: Check your Regions AGM date on the BSDHT Website or contact us to learn more about roles and ask questions!

Your Next Move

  1. Read Up: Request the Regional Group Handbook from BSDHT.
  2. Nominate Yourself: Ask for the nomination forms from BSDHT or from the email that will be sent out to members (deadlines are typically late summer for autumn AGMs).
  3. Ask Questions: Email sharon@bsdht.org.uk or contact your local Chair.

This pathway is about making your volunteer role clear, rewarding and fun. Together we can strengthen our Regional Groups!
